Basketball Mornings

Every weekday morning from 6:30 am – 7:30 am, my son Max and I go to a local basketball court for one hour of shooting practice. He practices and I return the ball.  We both benefit in multiple ways.

  • Max improves his shooting skill.
  • Light physical activity–his shooting and my returning balls–is a gentle way to wake up our bodies for the day ahead (without wearing us out). Likewise, Max awakens his mind by focusing on his shots and I by letting my mind wander.
  • We absorb sunshine early to produce vitamin D and dopamine and to aid our Circadian Rhythm.
  • We spend time together!

Since we started Basketball Mornings, I am more energetic and productive throughout the day. Also, I find that I am ready to fall asleep earlier at night and that I stay asleep longer.

How about you? What is a morning routine that could improve your well-being?

With Love,

P. Gustav Mueller, author of The Present
