Dr. Sean O’Mara makes a compelling case for incorporating sprinting into one’s exercise regimen. As a middle-aged man, I have to work myself slowly into sprinting lest I injure myself. These tendons and ligaments are 47 years old, after all. It takes me about a mile or two of jogging before I feel somewhat loose. Then I set my timer for 25 second intervals while I’m jogging. The first interval I run at about half to three quarters speed. For the second and third I sprint at full speed, but only after taking about ten seconds to accelerate each time. Even with all of those precautions, I can still feel stress on my knee ligaments as I sprint. We’ll see how this goes. I forgot how exhilarating sprinting is. I enjoy doing it, again. Watch Dr. Sean on The Minimalists Podcast to learn about the magic of sprinting.
