Middle-aged Man asks, “Why walk when you can ruck?”

I recently added sprinting to my physical fitness regimen. A feature I’ve come to appreciate about sprinting is the optionality and efficiency it offers. In the same 3.5 mile jog that I typically do, I can incorporate sprints. Thus I can get more done in less time. Moreover, if my morning is compressed as it was one day this week, I can sprint more and jog less to really save some time and still have a good workout.

Likewise, I am attracted to the efficiency of rucking. Rucking is simply walking with weight on your back. With extra weight on my back while I’m walking, I will necessarily burn more calories and build more muscle. If I’m walking the dogs, anyway, why not give my body a boost? Often times while I’m walking I’ll listen to something educational–usually something spiritual, philosophical or financial (or some combination of the three). Now I’ll be able to 1) walk the dogs 2) educate myself and 3) get enhanced exercise all at the same time!
