Middle-aged Man Cuts Housing Overhead!

I posted last month that I wanted to cut our Arizona housing overhead by about one third. Well, I did just that! We found a rental about a mile from our current rental that’ll suit everyone just fine. The rent is about one third less. Also, the house is smaller than our current place, with less glass, lower ceilings, and only one air conditioner, so our electric bill to keep the place cool in the extreme Arizona heat from approximately May through October should be significantly less. Further, if we get lucky, we won’t have to pay pest control monthly like we do at our current place where we were welcomed our first day by a scorpion!

Of course, we’ll have some frictional costs associated with swapping shelters. Nevertheless, we’ll recover those quickly. Then, it’ll be increased cash flow every month. It’ll be like getting a raise, a tax-free raise! Cool.

We have discussed some ideas about what we’ll do with the extra cash every month. They all have merit. Not sure what we’ll end up doing. Well, it’s nice to have options.
