Middle-aged Man Cuts Dining Out in April

Pizza at New York New York, Las Vegas

Last April I took a Vow of Poverty. I’m not reaching that far this April. However, I am going to try to spend no more than $150 on eating out this month. For the first quarter of 2024, we averaged $625 per month on dining out, which came in $10 under my limit. We spent a total of $408 in the quarter on alcohol while dining out (included in the $625 average).

Our results would have been significantly better had we not taken a trip to Las Vegas in March for the last ever PAC-12 men’s basketball tournament. Vegas is home of the $9.45 slice of cheese pizza, so with that as a base, it’s hard to eat and drink there without paying egregious prices. It’s even harder when your team loses, and you drown your sorrows with a full-service dinner and lots of drinks.

Anyway, I’m cutting a lot of checks, so to speak, this month, so I want to reduce the dining spend. Good for my budget AND good for my body–bonus!

Cheers!
